How Does it Feel to Have Sex? A Look Into the Sexual Response Cycle.

How does it feel to have sex?

A simple enough question, yet one that maintains an extreme amount of complexity to answer.

Most people know that having sex feels good, and aside from our biological need to reproduce, it is exactly this physical feel-good response that leaves us satisfied and fulfilled, the very reasonings as to why we chase sex with such passion.

But although most know this well, they do not know why, so by taking a deeper look into the sexual response cycle of human beings, we’re going to share with you exactly the reasons it feels so damn good to have sex.

What is the Sexual Response Cycle?

The sexual response cycle is a series of physical and emotional changes, happening in order, that make you feel aroused and instilled with the unshakable desire to have sex

To put it simply, it is the point at which your mind and body realize that you want sex, all the way to the point of reaching the resolution of having sex, aka the orgasm.

The sexual response cycle takes place in four phases, and those include:

  1. Excitement
  2. Plateau
  3. Orgasm
  4. Resolution

So let’s get into each one of them to determine the different ways in which they affect your mind and body, and how they make you feel in relation to answering the question of how does it feel to have sex.

Excitement

The entirety of your sexual experience begins with excitement. It is the driving force behind your sexual response cycle and is the most prominent of feelings that entice you to have sex.

Feeling excited means that you know something positive is in your future, and the bubbly happiness that is synonymous with this emotion arises because of your anticipation to fulfill said positive thing. In this case, were of course talking about the excitement of having sex to then reach climax.

The reasons as to why we feel sexual excitement are personal to ourselves and vary between us. An attractive individual, a movie with a sex scene, an aroma that makes you think of sex. Those kinds of things.

Anything in life can trigger your excitement, and this is the first thing you actually ‘feel’ when talking about how does it feel to have sex.

So if someone ever asks you, you can literally say it feels exciting!

But to dial in on some of the more physical effects of sexual excitement, these might include:

  • Increases in muscle tension
  • Accelerated heart rate and breathing
  • The skin may become flushed
  • Nipples harden or become erect
  • The blood flow to the genitals increase, resulting in swelling of the woman’s and man’s genitals
  • The vagina becomes lubricated
  • The woman’s breast become more full and the vaginal walls begin to swell
  • The man’s testicles swell, their scrotum tightens, and begin secreting pre-cum

The Plateau Stage

Describing the plateau stage is describing some of the feelings that occur during the time of which you are having sex with your partner.

During the plateau stage, you are currently in the actual process of fulfilling your excitement; as in you are having sex to fulfill the excitement of having sex!

The plateau stage begins with sexual contact and ends upon the brink of orgasm, but of course, varies depending on the type of person you are and the type of sex you like to have.

Some prefer a plateau stage that maintains a lot of focus on physical sensation. Rough, crazy sex that makes them feel.

Others might enjoy their mind being catered to through intimacy, and having slow and sensual sex instead for a plateau stage that feels the best to them.

But no matter what you do to reach and maintain this stage, there are truths to the way that sex will make everyone feel during this moment, and those include:

  • An escalation of the physical changes from the excitement stage (more breathing, more blood to the genitals so that they are full)
  • Heightened vaginal swelling and change of color to the vaginal walls
  • Increased sensitivity to a woman’s clitoris
  • Men’s testicles pull into the scrotum
  • Muscle spasms occurring in the feet, face, and hands, or other areas of your body

So when related this to answering how does it feel to have sex, it can essentially be described as an extremely euphoric adrenaline rush that leaves you feeling high on life, as your brain and body release chemicals and hormones that directly influence your physical and mental self, and your body undergoes systematic responses that all lend for the blissful and momentary pause from reality that sex provides.

You will feel the soft insides of your partner or she will feel you, and this will create a connection between one another that can only be felt while making love during the plateau stage.

The Orgasm Stage

Stage 3, the orgasm stage, satisfies our entire sexual experience, and in the end (other than reproduction) is the real reason why we have sex.

The orgasm stage, as the name clearly implies, occurs after the plateau stage where one might feel themselves progressing into the point of the euphoric response of sex that is an orgasm.

Where sex and the plateau stage use outside sources to dictate the pleasure (such as another human being or a sex toy during solo masturbation to provide a physical response), the orgasm itself is an internal response that we feel as a result of said outside triggers.

When in the orgasm phase, one body might undergo and feel:

  • Involuntary muscle contractions
  • Blood pressure, heart rate, and breathing at their highest rates
  • Spasm of muscles in the feet
  • A sudden and intense release of sexual tension.
  • Vaginal contractions and rhythmic contractions of the uterus
  • Contractions of the penis that eventually push semen out during ejaculation
  • A rash of “sex flush” may appear on the skin

Overall, the orgasm stage can be described as the stage that involves the most internal feeling and that provides the most in terms of fulfillment.

Using words to describe this is nearly impossible, as the state we enter is quite literally out of this world, and that alone should tell you enough about how the orgasms stage makes you feel.

There’s no other feeling like it, and it is one of the most satisfying sensations attainable in this life.

The Resolution Stage

When describing feelings of the resolution stage, they are those that make you feel grounded, comfortable, fulfilled, relaxed, and happy.

Here you will maintain satisfaction for the sex you had, and the feelings of fulfillment stage often last the longest, at least until your sex drive kicks back in.

We have sex to reach the orgasm stage for immediate satisfaction, but it is the resolution stage that makes us feel good for the long term.

During this stage, our body responds by:

  • The body returning back to normal function.
  • Swollen and erect body parts return to their usual size and color.
  • An increased sense of overall well being, comfort and intimacy
